Finale ~ the close or termination of something, the last and often climactic event or item in a sequence. That more than accurately describes this novel. We all knew this day was coming but for it finally to be here is surreal. This is the 15th and final book in the Reverend Curtis Black series and it has been an awesome ride but all good things must come to an end. We have been through every emotion possible with this man and we continue to come back, that is the sign of a great author.  Curtina Black is the youngest of Reverend Curtis Black children and she has fallen right in line with his other children. Curtina has been as close to perfect since she has been with Curtis and Charlotte but as of late she has discovered the quickest way to torture her parents, by being a typical teen. It doesn't matter what Curtis and Charlotte does, they can't seem to get anything right according to their youngest daughter and likewise she is seeming to do everything wrong in her parents eyes. Who will break first and will be the consequences if any? Will the Black family survive this last child and the trials and tribulations that she is sending them through? Is this marriage strong enough? Who will come out the victor?Better Late Than Never is a book about love and forgiveness. There are several situations going on in this final novel in the Reverend Curtis Black series but the one thing that is understood is love conquers all. We have been with the good Reverend since the beginning with Casting The First Stone, we have seen wives come and go, lovers come and go and children coming from every direction but through it all the one thing that is constant is love. I love the way Roby directs her characters because they could be you, me or anyone that we know. The writing is so realistic that it makes you want to search for the REAL Reverend Black! I am sorry to see this series end BUT maybe Rev. Black will visit in a standalone book. So long Reverend Black, it has been a pleasure!
I am just heartbroken that this is the final book in the (Reverend Curtis Black) I knew this day would come I have every single book in this series and to be apart of the Black family all these years I cried cried cried, because I just don't want to say goodbye, but I can always pull up a book and read it. I thinking of starting the beginning of my vacation in September to read the entire series all over again. I hope, Mrs. Robby, change her mind and start a new series with, Reverend Curtis Black lost daddy's, anything just to keep the Black legacy going. Mrs. T. Lands
This is more kudos for the author than anything. A thank you for giving your readers one consistent ride over the years. Most everyone knows these characters in real life whether through church, church politics, within their own family or friend. Whereas, this last book was no different addressing real life issues/situations we as readers can identify with. Book Clubs this is one series that will give you many hours of discussion. Better Late, Than Never says it all, as the circle is complete. Readers the tea spilleth and all the dirty laundry is let out. Get the book for yourself and a friend as it helps to keep Christian Fiction Authors encouraged to keep writing. Trust that closure is the structure of this book. Answers to behaviors, consequences of actions/deeds of the past give just the right ending to The Black family. Without telling more than the author and not spoil it for anyone Curtina! I needed to accept some hard truths regarding the youth of today with all this social media access, freedom to act grown-up and not be a child...smh. Charlotte & Curtis its an emotional ride.I preordered this book and finished in 24 hours.
WOW!!!!!!!!!! What a great way to end the Curtis Black Series. I have truly enjoyed reading each and every book. Better Late Than Never had me from the beginning to the end. Curtis child hood was horrific. No wonder he treated women the way he did. How he survived growing up in that environment is amazing. Charlotte's struggle with alcohol and being First Lady of a mega church was "eye-opening". It brought a question to mind. (How is my First Lady dealing with the role?) As parishioners, we take so much for granted. We assume she is happy and loving ALL THE TIME. I like the idea of a "sabbatical leave" for First Ladies. (Food for thought). Reading the last book in the series was well worth the wait. Curtina and all her drama was so unexpected. I could not put the book down. Mrs. Roby did an amazing job. I invited my friends to read the entire collection. Can't wait to have discussions with my book club . CURTIS BLACK WILL BE MISSED!!!!!! Please send us on more amazing journeys .💘🙌😇
After falling in love with the Curtis Black character in the first book, I waited with great anticipation for the next book. Now, the books became a bit repetitive, especially Alicia's and Dillon's spin offs, however I stuck firm and kept on reading. From the dead mistress with AIDS to Charlotte's drinking, I was here but to finish off this series with THIS drivel was so disappointing. The flashbacks of Curtis and his sister was way too much and felt like a filler because without it, this book would have been 50 pages. The lack of discipline for Curtina was laughable and to attempt to shock fell flat. Overall, I was so upset I paid money for this book and did not get it from the library. Take my advice, this is a library book all day!
Wow!! Wow!! I don’t even know where to start other than to say buy the book, download the book, share the book!! Kimberla Lawson Roby literally made these characters so real I have a hard time believing this was fiction. I have a better appreciation of a Pastor’s wife and her role in the church. I also looked through the eyes of a mega church of which I am a part of. The First Lady once told me she would not allow the church to put her in a box. I really get it. They are human and I also realize there are so many women wanting to take her place. This book dealt with so many everyday life issues I was sad when it ended. This was a great journey and I would hope that Pastors, their wives, kids and members of congregation would see themselves and pray for each other.
