From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8-- Viewing skits as an aspect of folklore, this is more a general resource than an actual book of scripts such as those found in Fontaine's Humorous Skits for Young People (1976; o.p.) and Olfson's Skits and Short Farces for Young Actors (1985, both Plays). A list of characters, an outline of the action, and suggested dialogue or improvisations for each is given rather than the formal scripts, stage directions, and production notes found in the others. Props and scenery are kept to a minimum, and in keeping with the oral tradition, flexibility in length and numbers of actors, as well as variations on the action are indicated. The material, submitted by camps, schools, and youth groups, should appeal to a juvenile sense of humor. Many, not only in the chapter "Grossies," are truly gross. Full acknowledgement is given to all groups and individuals that provided information, and a request for future contributions is included. Pen-and-ink drawings are a delightful accompaniment to the text. --Meryl Silverstein, formerly at Meyer Levin Junior High School, BrooklynCopyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I love that they are skits actually written by kids. I love that it's not dialogue, but rather, set-up and character; just enough detail and heft for elementary grades. The copyright is 1990--that is to say, 26 years ago, so I shouldn't have been surprised to find how sensitivities and culture change. Oh, dear. Who would expect to find a skit that lightly treats a suicide? Or some hard drink? The kids laughed heartily and though we haven't yet dug into it much, I think it's going to be a hit. In it we will find opportunities to consider and reflect on a variety of topics, and though a couple of decades might have left me with so 'splainin to do, I'm glad to have found it.
This skit book was written in 1990. There is one chapter on skits based on commercials. These commercials are so old that you have to be a senior citizen to remember them. Many skits were so short they aren't worth the bother. I was really disappointed in this book.
My elementary school kids have used this book for YEARS to prepare skits for their school talent show, church talent show, and 4-H programs. The skits are easy and most require little speaking which makes it PERFECT for young children... or we adults who can't remember speaking lines! Youth leaders or school teachers would find this book very useful... I have loaned my book several times and am always careful to make sure it comes back to me because this is one that I DON'T want to lose!
The book contains 101 skits for kids that are typically little comedic plays. The idea may be dated because people are not having enough children to be in a neighborhood to do the skits and have an audience too. However, the book is cute.
Though some of the skits are similar to each other this book is an absolute treasure trove. Easy enough to read that a cub scout aged reader could get a lot of ideas. The book is well organized, with an excellent index and table of contents.
Our boys love doing skits when we go camping. This book has some great skits that kids of any age can do!
This book is used by my boy scout. My husband says it includes some of the golden oldies. I would not know, having been a girl scout. A good place to start for planning campfire skits.
Great book.
