I bought this for my parents along with an iPad air. They are not technically sophisticated (i.e., have a hard time understanding all the functions of a flip phone and are only minimally proficient on email and google searching) and I thought the book would help them understand the iPad. But the book was too long and too dense to be of much help. They felt intimidated by how much there was to know about the iPad. I think a much simpler, step-by-step guide with practice tutorials would have been more helpful. In the end, I returned the iPad and donated the book to their retirement community. This book would be very helpful to someone who has used an iPhone and is looking to understand the iPad. But if you are new to smart phones and tablets, this book may be just too daunting.
In my not so humble opinion (I teach computers) the Rosenzweig book is a gem. You don't have to have a familiarity with computers to understand the book. He carefully explains the basics as well as suggestions for enhancing the use of the iPad with additional apps. Well worth buying it even if you have had an iPad for a while as you will learn all the settings that useful to enhance the iPad for Senios such as turning on Bold Type that makes even the names under the icons easier to read for our "silver citizen" eyes.
Bought this for my 79 year old mother. This is her first iPad. She loves the book and said to give it 5 stars. It explains everything to where she could understand it and do what she wanted to do. She said it made the tasks she wanted to do very easy. She also said this author did a fantastic job of explaining the Ipad and instructions were accurate and easy. She also said she read the instructions and then had her ipad right there with the book and followed the book while performing the task on the IPad. Everything she tried was easy if you followed the book. She would definitely recommend this book for people who are trying to learn how to operate their iPad. This was a great investment and she said it is much better than those books for "Dummies". I am so glad I bought this book for her. She is having a ball with her iPad!
I bought my 70+ y.o. computer illiterate mom a refurbished iPad for Xmas and figured I'd try to get her off to a good start with a step by step book as well. So far the book seems to be a good guide, though the main complaint from her is the small print. I hadn't thought of it, but it does make sense that a step by step book for seniors might be better with larger type setting... But then again I'd imagine it would have to be twice as big.
I did not find anything that turned me off or disappointed me. I'm a senior citizen and this is my first iPad. So far I've enjoyed it very much and learned many things about the iPad Air that I would not have figured out on my own. Yes I would recommend this book, especially if your trying to figure out your iPadand it happens to be your first one.PS. I just realized why us men never ask for directions!
Computers are new to me.I needed a simple book that would show me in layman words what to do without breaking my head to figure it out.I was surprised with how simple the book is.I didn't need to be tutored by anyone.I recommend this book to any age, not just seniors
My wife and I are both in our mid 70's. I am very computer literate but she is absolutely not. I can point my wife to the right place in this book, she reads it and accepts what the book says (she won't listen to me) and learns. Great buy for seniors.
I bought my iPad to use for remote work on my website and writing projects. Most "guides" to using them seem to focus on playing games and taking pictures. Even when Apple tries to pint out business uses, they seem to think charts and pie graphs are all that are needed. This "book" taught me a whole lot about using my iPad for writing and managing photos very quickly, and I expect to learn a lot more from it about the sort of uses I want to put my tablet to.
